New Client in the President’s Office - Chapter 21
The miscellaneous tasks she originally thought a secretary should do are actually not that easy to handle.Shen Yan originally planned to set a 9 PM alarm to remind herself not to forget to send the document to Fan Mingxu.
But as soon as she took out her phone, she saw a message from Zhou Xing.
Zhou Xing: Help me and President Lu book return tickets for the day after tomorrow in the afternoon.
Make sure to book flights departing from the Capital Airport.
He then sent over the ID information for both him and Lu Yu.
Shen Yan felt a bit flustered.
How could he just casually hand over such important personal information?
Wasn’t he afraid she might sell it?
She glanced at it out of curiosity and noticed that Zhou Xing was a few months younger than Lu Yu.
His birthday was in June, making him a Gemini—quite fitting for his personality.
Shen Yan replied with a simple “Okay” and then set a reminder for 9 AM the next day to book the tickets.
Receiving this task finally made her feel like she was truly working as a secretary in the President’s Office.
This kind of work was exactly what she imagined a secretary should be doing.
Speaking of which, when she heard Jian Hong mention yesterday that President Lu made his own coffee, she found it quite odd.
Thinking about it now, wasn’t making coffee something a secretary or assistant should be doing?
No wonder Jian Hong said that President Lu was a tech nerd with a good personality.
He really was quite nice if he was willing to make his own coffee.
Well, small tasks like booking flights were her responsibility now.
Distracted by this “small task,” Shen Yan completely forgot about sending the revised speech to Fan Mingxu.
By the time she remembered, it was already the next morning.
She woke up abruptly from a nightmare where Fan Mingxu was chasing her down, demanding to know why she had sent him three identical speeches.
The fear jolted her awake.
After a moment, she realized that she had indeed forgotten to send the “revised” third version of the speech last night.
A wave of panic hit her.
She quickly checked her phone—it was 5:50 AM.
Then she checked WeChat.
Seeing that Fan Mingxu hadn’t messaged her yet, she let out a small sigh of relief.
She suddenly recalled Fan Mingxu’s theory from last Friday—”Sending before the end of the workweek is the same as sending before the start of the next workweek.”
By the same logic, sending it last night or sending it this morning was essentially the same thing.
With that thought, she felt a little better.
So, she hurriedly forwarded the exact same speech from last night’s chat to Fan Mingxu again.
After completing this little operation, she stared at the three identical speech files in the chat and finally felt at ease.
Luckily, Fan Mingxu had asked her to send it via WeChat.
If it had been through the internal network, she would’ve had to physically go to the office.
Now that everything was settled, the sleep that had been interrupted by fear came rushing back.
Shen Yan tossed her phone aside and dozed off again.
By the time her alarm woke her up, it was already time to get ready for work.
After turning off her alarm, she casually opened WeChat.
In the work group chat, she saw a message from Fan Mingxu praising her efforts.
Shen Yan: ?
What was this about?
Thinking she might have opened the app incorrectly, she exited WeChat and reopened it.
Then she noticed another private message from Zhou Xing—a thumbs-up emoji.
Shen Yan: …
What the hell was going on?!
She went back to their department’s group chat and carefully read Fan Mingxu’s message.
That’s when she realized what had happened.
Fan Mingxu had posted a screenshot of the speech she sent at 5:50 AM, publicly praising her “latest version” of the document.
He commended her for working late into the night to revise it.
As a reward for her dedication, he even granted her a half-day off in the morning.
Shen Yan: ?
There was such a thing as a free half-day off?
His ability to jump to conclusions was truly impressive.
While she was happy about getting a morning off, she also felt a bit guilty.
Not only had she not stayed up all night revising the speech, but she was also terrified that Fan Mingxu might randomly decide to compare the three files.
If he did, he would instantly realize she had submitted the same document three times.
Not to mention, she wasn’t fully convinced that Fan Mingxu’s words could be trusted.
Jian Hong had said before that he often forgot his own assignments.
What if he took back the half-day leave he just granted?
Just in case, she opened her chat with Zhou Xing.
After all, Zhou Xing was her direct supervisor.
And it was clear that he and Fan Mingxu weren’t on the same side.
If a conflict broke out, she didn’t want to be caught in the crossfire.
Shen Yan: Assistant Zhou, Director Fan said in the group chat that I don’t need to come in this morning.
Is that true?
Zhou Xing: If he told you not to come, then don’t.
I’ll submit an official leave request for you.
Just remember to book our flights this morning.
Shen Yan: I remember the tickets.
But I didn’t actually stay up late working I just forgot to send the file last night.
Zhou Xing: That’s fine.
Just rest.
With her direct supervisor’s approval, Shen Yan naturally followed along and stayed in bed.
Not long after, Zhou Xing sent another message.
Wouldn’t he be arriving at the office soon?
Before she could reply, Zhou Xing quickly sent another message:
It’s fine even if I get there.
You can just relax nearby.
Shen Yan didn’t argue and simply replied, “Okay.”
She never expected that this whole mix-up would result in her getting a half-day off.
She decided that for today no, for the whole week she wouldn’t say anything bad about Fan Mingxu.
To show her gratitude for the time off, she even used her own reward points to upgrade Zhou Xing and Lu Yu’s seats.
After booking the tickets, she sent a screenshot to Zhou Xing and even thoughtfully asked if he had any seating preferences whether he preferred the front or back of the cabin.
Zhou Xing looked at her message in confusion.
Could business class even have seats in the back?
But he didn’t think too much about it and simply replied:
Front.
Because their schedule was tight, he didn’t bother checking the details of the booking.
It wasn’t until they arrived at the Capital Airport, finished checking in, and tried to enter the VIP lounge that he noticed something was off.
Looking down at the boarding pass, he finally realized
Their tickets were for premium economy, not business class.
They couldn’t enter the VIP lounge.
Zhou Xing: ?
He immediately pulled up Shen Yan’s message and carefully examined the booking details.
After reviewing everything, he let out a soft chuckle.
Shen Yan was actually quite cute she had used her own points to upgrade their seats.
Lu Yu noticed Zhou Xing’s amused expression and asked, “What’s wrong?”
Zhou Xing quickly composed himself.
“Nothing.
I made a mistake and booked the wrong tickets.”
Lu Yu: ?
Zhou Xing handed him his boarding pass.
“I booked premium economy by accident.”
Lu Yu hesitated.
“Premium economy?”
Zhou Xing explained, “It’s probably just the front row of economy class.”
Lu Yu nodded.
“Oh.”
Zhou Xing checked the time.
They were on schedule, with about 20 minutes before boarding.
“Let’s just wait at the gate.”
Lu Yu didn’t ask any further and followed him.
As they walked, Zhou Xing messaged Shen Yan.
Zhou Xing: Why are you using your own points for work?
Shen Yan, clearly slacking off at work, replied almost instantly.
I didn’t?
Zhou Xing realized that he had forgotten to tell her they needed business class tickets.
So he subtly hinted at it.
Zhou Xing: You didn’t need to use points to upgrade our seats.
The company reimburses all travel expenses.
Shen Yan: I have a lot of points.
It’s fine.
After sending the message, she suddenly realized what he was implying.
Oh no.
She had booked premium economy for both the President and his assistant?!
