Streamer Crazy About Slaughter - Chapter 30
“It’s true that I really met a user named Lin by sheer coincidence. To be honest, I approached it thoughtlessly and ended up meeting them almost by mistake. Um… I can’t give you all the details, but it’s true that we met.”
[Wait, you really met a user named Lin?]
[????]
[What on earth did you do to end up meeting them like that??]
[Seriously, you usually say everything honestly]
[LMAO, did Plea commit some crime or something?]
[Lol, surely not]
The chatroom was in an uproar, deliberately drawing in viewers as usual.
However, even though I was acting on stream, the mention of a crime made Sua flinch without realizing it.
I had certainly been following a woman named Serin, but I had no bad intentions. The gaze that had been fixed on me in the café was intimidating enough to make me hesitant about how to approach her, which had just compounded the misunderstandings.
From an outsider’s perspective, it might have seemed that way. Perhaps even to the woman named Serin.
Still, I couldn’t just tell the viewers the truth outright.
“…Honestly, considering how much I’ve drawn attention, I can’t tell you all the detailed conversation we had. And you know I can’t share any personal information or appearance details about the user Lin, right? I’m just trying to share my personal feelings about meeting the user Lin.”
[We get thatㅇㅇ]
[Is Lin a girl? A guy?]
[Wow, but you actually met? Is that even possible?]
[Lol, how can you say that after raising our expectations so high?]
[Where did you meet? How did Lin reveal themselves?]
[Didn’t Plea already say they wouldn’t disclose personal information? Why are you still asking??]
[Lol, Plea said they wouldn’t say, so stop asking]
As I was aware of the various reactions in the chat, Sua prepared to add a bit of embellishment to the truth.
Even if I had the intention of entertaining viewers and attracting attention, as mentioned earlier, I had no intention of crossing any lines concerning the woman named Serin.
That was one of the biggest realizations I had when I researched other streamers before starting my own stream.
This “internet streaming” was a profession highly sensitive to incidents and accidents.
I wondered if there was any profession as sensitive to incidents as streamers. Perhaps celebrities or politicians were on a somewhat similar level.
No matter how good the image I had built over time or how little I’ve stirred up incidents, the moment I make a mistake even once, not only would the number of viewers decrease, but the entire career and image I had carefully constructed could evaporate in an instant.
Moreover, the more known a streamer becomes, the more they are recognized in the online world. However, they are certainly not public figures in the same sense.
Nonetheless, as their name becomes more notable, the “responsibility” that comes with it increases.
Even if one is doing “personal broadcasting,” it’s best to avoid mentioning sensitive topics such as personal political views or gender conflicts, as attention from others is constant.
If viewed simply, one might see them just as a person doing personal broadcasts at home or playing games.
However, streamers belong to a profession with considerable influence. Although they may appear to have little influence, the actual impact exists.
It’s safe to say that popular streamers have far more influence than lesser-known celebrities.
And the larger a streamer’s popularity, the more significant the responsibility.
Unless the broadcast is exceptionally peculiar, everyone tends to be careful even with light swearing.
Currently, Plea, a Twitch streamer, was one of the popular streamers often referred to as a big company.
Thus, Sua was now being quite cautious about what to say next.
“So, about that… Where should I even start? Recently, the name Lin has been gaining so much attention that I find it hard to express myself.”
In reality, I had no intention of revealing personal information or hints about the woman named Serin’s appearance.
In fact, Sua was more inclined to talk about the user Lin to the viewers watching her.
So, I was filled with a desire to convey my message to Serin.
Looking at the chats, I was acutely aware that I had made a wrong first move and wanted to phrase it in a way that wouldn’t leave Serin with a bad impression.
But still, the words involving the user Lin were something I didn’t want to let slip away.
How should I organize that, which was the primary reason Sua was hesitant to speak up?
Eventually, I managed to gather my thoughts.
“You know, at first, I didn’t even know how many times I mistakenly sent friend requests because Lin’s nickname was different! And among those…”
Mixing in other trivial stories, I began to speak on the broadcast.
Initially, I conveyed that I had quite an interest in the user Lin.
And I also recognized that she had deliberately given me a different nickname.
I was given the nickname Plea in the café.
Among those words, the main points were roughly the three mentioned above.
Therefore, the following statements from Sua weren’t particularly substantial compared to the fact that she had actually met the user Lin.
For the viewers drawn in by the attention, the contents felt somewhat ambiguous.
Yet, Sua’s remarks spread rapidly across various communities.
As a popular Twitch streamer with an average viewership exceeding 10,000, and firmly in the top tier of the game “Another World,” Plea was currently ranked 8th in the game.
Her words, while seemingly light, had not been directly mentioned about anyone in such a manner before, so they spread with significant impact.
***
Initially, I had learned about this site through discussions in a community revolving around hacking controversies.
Now, I found some enjoyment in watching the streams. Serin thought that way.
Whether tuning in like a radio to fill the empty audio or staying updated on the latest trends, streaming certainly had its advantages.
And most importantly, when a streamer talks, people react with various chats.
It felt like catching a glimpse of a slice of the world.
…
After returning home and finishing my shower, I simply accessed Twitch to browse through streams before logging into Another World.
I could have also watched streams after logging into Another World, but that felt more tiring, akin to doing two tasks at once.
Considering how easily I felt fatigued even with light activities, it was better to just turn on the PC and watch streams.
“Looks like they are streaming now.”
The stream of a previous streamer I had seen named “Hana” was live, and there were far more streams than I expected.
There were broadcasts that appeared to be cooking shows with kitchen backgrounds and streamers wandering the streets engaging in conversations with people.
There were also streamers interacting with viewers while watching videos.
The broadcasting styles varied immensely based on personal preferences.
“But with so many options, I’m not sure what to watch.”
Serin muttered blankly and scrolled through Twitch streams.
There’s a saying that having too many choices can make it harder to decide, and it was indeed true.
While there were certainly interesting streams, choosing one from among them was not easy.
At first, I thought about watching a stream related to Another World, but I excluded them early on, fearing that I might inadvertently type malicious chats.
Indeed, the video shown by the woman named Sua I met at the café was quite shocking.
Although I was concerned about the content of the video, more importantly, becoming aware of the chat history I had participated in was significant.
Even recalling now, the chats I typed during Hana’s stream were almost malicious.
But now, to type such chats again in the current situation?
“No way.”
Serin let out a hollow laugh and continued scrolling.
Additionally, since the Twitch site strictly allowed only one ID at a time, users couldn’t create new accounts unless they verified their identity. I had to be particularly cautious now.
I suspected that might have been an attempt to prevent people from masquerading as other accounts to h*rass streamers.
The streamer aspect looked quite fun, so although it might not be soon, I considered that I might give it a try sometime.
And recently, I was indeed trying to find one thing.
A sense of purpose.
That was more important than I expected.
In the world of Black Ark, I had mostly gone on adventures by following the main story, without questioning such things.
Simply moving along with the quests and fulfilling the holographic text written.
Acting per the dictates of an unknown existence and receiving the predetermined rewards for completing those tasks.
Then I could spend my time leisurely without further worries or thoughts.
At the culminating moment when that grand quest ended, I wandered through the world.
I voluntarily took on adventures I didn’t have to partake in, completing quests asking to defeat thousands of monsters.
And I acted while being aware of the penalties and rewards contained within.
Indeed, not long ago, that was my state.
But in this world now, such things didn’t exist at all.
In some ways, I was overflowing with money, the most important resource, residing comfortably in my bank account, and there were no issues with living.
Although I felt fatigued for some unusual reason, it wasn’t a significant problem.
I had only one family member, a younger sister, who just happened to be the one I felt close to lately.
Even so, ultimately, in a world where no familiar people or connections existed.
What should I do in such a world?
What I had accomplished in the world of Black Ark had already been taken from me, while the body that should have been my character and a leisurely future life was now offered.
Perhaps I could just live thoughtlessly as time flows.
Living that way likely wouldn’t pose significant problems.
But… would I truly feel indifferent living like that?
Now, looking back, simply enjoying the game Another World without thought felt somewhat hollow.
Thus, I recognized that having a sense of purpose was undoubtedly essential for ‘me.’
And now, I decided to set a goal that seemed quite simple.
Someone might ask if that was a sense of purpose.
People might say that given all that money, pursuing something as trivial as a game is absurd.
But what does it matter if others say so?
Even if it may seem trivial to others, accomplishing something I can achieve.
That was truly something to feel good about.
So Serin established a goal for herself.
For now, to achieve the highest tier in Another World. The Challenger tier.
“Shall I log in?”
