Now That I Have Become a Woman, I Am a Vtuber - Chapter 2
A decent auditionWhen I returned home, the first thing I did was sit on my bed and try to recall my memories.
The more I delved into them, the stranger I felt.
What should I call it… Not just memories flooding in, but a feeling?
It’s as if the female Kim Suhyun and the original male Kim Suhyun were mixed together.
Right now, I’m closer to the male Kim Suhyun side.
If the female Kim Suhyun is black and the original male Kim Suhyun is white, then now I’m a light gray, I suppose.
Or it might just be the influence of the hormones in the female Kim Suhyun’s body.
Anyway, after thoroughly examining my memories, it seems that the female Kim Suhyun was quite serious about being a Vtuber.
It was impulsive, but she had looked into it quite meticulously and had accumulated a decent amount of foundational knowledge.
I can’t help but find it shocking how much money was spent on equipment and avatars in an instant.
Especially virtual avatars, why are they so expensive?
I spent more money on this avatar than on the microphone and camera.
The computer was already high-spec because it was used for design work, so there was no need to upgrade it.
Well, I think it would lag a bit if I stream a high-spec game, but the audition comes first.
[Miro, I’m sending you the schedule for the first round of the public audition again…] I’ve just gone over the text message again.
The time is tonight, and the project is held at an entertainment company where many corporate broadcasters gather.
The name of the project is ‘Celestial Idol’ and it consists of a four-stage process: the first public audition, the second interview, the third personal broadcast, and the fourth stage where participants promote themselves based on their past activities.
For now, to prepare for the first audition where they assess basic introductions and singing skills, I logged into VRChat on my PC and applied the avatar that the female Kim Suhyun had prepared.
It was my first time doing this, but thanks to the practice the female Kim Suhyun had done, I managed to apply it skillfully.
Using the mirror feature, I observed my avatar and felt a complex, subtle emotion.
Miro, my 2D avatar, is a female character with pink long hair and green eyes, with tiny horns like a little devil.
“Ah, ah! Yeah!” I raised the tone of my voice a bit, giving off more of a playful sister or peer vibe.
I turned on the recording program and reviewed each of my voice clips.
“Hello~” [Hello~]
“Hello! My name is Miro!” [Hello! My name is Miro!]
“Wow, crazy.” I listened to my recorded voice in real-time, and it definitely lived up to the visual appeal.
I tried to adjust the tension or lower it to avoid any sense of discomfort.
“But the song…”
The female Kim Suhyun had chosen two songs.
One was a Korean idol song, and the other was a J-pop song.
As male Kim Suhyun, the former was a familiar song I had heard often, while the latter was a song I had never heard before…
“Aaaaah-” As female Kim Suhyun, however, the former felt a bit awkward, while she knew the lyrics of the latter by heart.
After singing both songs and recording them, I became confident.
“The first round is a giveaway.”
Honestly, it’s not at the level of a professional singer, but the skills honed by male Kim Suhyun at karaoke combined with the delicate voice of female Kim Suhyun created a decent cover song vibe.
“And I realize now, I got a two-for-one deal.”
Although I’m twenty-one, combined, it’s as if I’ve lived for 42 years.
Though my social life has been limited to school life, I consider myself a hybrid, having experienced two entirely different lives.
This thought filled me with newfound confidence.
After all, weren’t my rivals just fresh-faced young professionals, barely in their thirties?
Make way.
Here comes Kim Suhyun, a genius destined to win hearts!
Am I setting myself up to be seen as a top candidate right from the start, raising expectations too high?
Too much anticipation can be troublesome.
As I leaned back in my chair, chuckling to myself, the time finally came for the first round of auditions, and I boldly entered the broadcast where the auditions were ongoing.
I turned on my VR chat and entered the waiting room.
“Is this the waiting room?”
The audition via VR chat even had a waiting room, filled with avatars of various hair colors, each chatting animatedly in vibrant voices.
Honestly, the space, crowded with dozens of high-pitched women talking, was somewhat overwhelming.
“What? You’re participating too?”
“Wow, meeting here?”
“Nice to meet everyone~”
“Gosh! Do you know me?”
The space, full of laughter and greetings among these women, was a bit much for me at first.
I looked around and headed for a quiet corner.
Once in the corner, I set up my character and watched the ongoing broadcast.
The first contestant finished introducing herself, and the profile of the second contestant appeared.
“The avatar is pretty.”
“Well, there wouldn’t be any unattractive avatars here…”
It was evident this avatar had some money spent on it.
[Hello~]
Nice voice.
Perhaps she’ll pass the first round easily.
Honestly, I was watching with a relaxed mindset.
After all, wasn’t I an ultimate cute girl with a voice that could melt men’s hearts?
While I couldn’t show my face with an avatar, having lived as a man for 21 years gave me confidence in this field.
Halfway through the first round of auditions, I sighed deeply and fiddled with a lighter on my desk.
“…Damn, this isn’t going well.”
Finally, out of nervousness, I took out a cigarette and put it in my mouth.
“With that talent, she should be a singer!”
It seems I underestimated the virtual streamer industry too much.
“Wow, she really sings well.”
-LOL LOL LOL
-She does sing well.
-Hmm, really?
-Pretentious.
-Ah, so annoying!
-When are we playing LoL?
-Isn’t she a singer?
-Kind of a singer.
-Definitely singer material.
-She really is good.
Riding the wave of the virtual trend, a relatively well-known entertainment company, The Six, is hosting the ‘Celestial Project’.
Rush and An Jihong, broadcasters from The Six, casually leaned back in their chairs, evaluating the contestant singing on the screen.
“But the self-introduction was a bit bland.”
-Looks boring lol
-Just need to sing well and look pretty
-lol
-But aren’t she better than the others who appeared?
-No weird concept, not bad, right?
After receiving such harsh criticism, the participant stepped down, and as the auditions continued, no promising candidates emerged.
-Hmm..
-How long will this judging take?
-Really lacks personality
-(Potato Cone)
-This project is a flop lol
-Damn, judges! Did you have to be so harsh?
-lol

The viewers, too, were expressing their anger in the chat due to the lack of unique participants, and Jihong, who was paid a modest sum by the company to serve as a judge during the audition process, was enduring a painful time.
‘Why am I even watching this?’
He enjoyed watching anime like One Piece, Naruto, and Dragon Ball, but dancing and acting cute while using a 2D avatar was off-putting to him.
At least with singing, there’s some enjoyment, but even that was marred by the poor skills of some, which occasionally made the atmosphere quite awkward.
‘I just want to go play LoL.’
He wanted to just turn off this VR chat and play League of Legends, but since he was paid to be a judge, he endured and tried to appease the viewers.
When the auditions reached the middle to later stages, a new participant came on.
“Hello~ I’m Miro, contestant number 43.”
Miro, the participant number 43, greeted everyone brightly, sporting an avatar with pink hair and small horns.
“Oh..”
-Oh?
-Nice voice
-Lol what a reactionᄏᄏ
-Pass.
-Why is the chat so intense?
-Ugh, these fanboys
“Shall we listen to the song first?”
As they were admiring her voice, Cheolwon, a judge and the host sitting next to her, continued the proceedings.
“Ah, the song I’m going to sing is…”
The two songs sung by contestant number 43, Miro, were fairly good. Her melodious voice and strong vocal ability when needed were definitely better than average, but…
-Hmm.. she’s ambiguous, isn’t she?
-Her voice is really amazing lol..
-Is it just her voice charm? lol
-Is that really enough?
-Didn’t she sing better earlier?
-What’s with the second song, some weird fanboy song?
-I like the fanboy song though
While her singing was generally at a level occasionally seen in karaoke by regular people, it was somewhat ambiguous.
“Wow, you sing well.”
“Definitely a nice voice to listen to.”
“Right? Have you had any formal singing training?”
The judges politely continued to praise her, while cautiously scoring her on the score board. While her voice was quite good, the company was primarily looking for vocal ability.
“It’s a project after all, so we’re planning to bring in experts to produce music, so we’re focusing on that quality.”
“I haven’t had singing lessons!”
“Hmm.. Is that so? Would you be interested in learning?”
With a good voice, when asked if she would like to learn, Miro nodded, indicating she would be willing if possible, and the judges continued to ask questions and check her qualifications.
‘Well, not bad.’
An Jihong also casually asked questions and scored her. While her singing was ambiguous, it wasn’t unpleasant to listen to, and she spoke well and thoughtfully.
What should I say? More a streamer than an idol talent?
After her introduction ended smoothly and she received a pass, Miro left the audition stage.
The judges continued to evaluate the other participants, and the audition came to an end. Kim Suhyun, who was anxiously waiting for the notification, cheered upon receiving the first round acceptance notice three days later.
