Now That I Have Become a Woman, I Am a Vtuber - Chapter 106
PreparationSuddenly, my to-do list grew a lot.
On top of what I was already doing, I had to add the advertising broadcast and the schedule for Tenshi’s visit to Korea.
“Ugh…”
I stared at the calendar for no reason.
It looks like Tenshi will be coming to Korea sooner than I expected.
In that case, I should prepare for that first.
Well, the truth is, there’s not much to prepare for the drawing broadcast.
I just need to start the broadcast and draw, right?
Before that, though, I’ll have to meet with the game company at least once.
So, I started thinking about where Tenshi should go when she arrives in Korea.
I had promised to guide her last time, so as a Korean, I feel like I need to come up with a proper itinerary for her.
But, the thing is, I’ve never really planned a domestic trip, let alone done the usual kind of date. So, I’m not sure how to plan it.
Hmm… Maybe we should go to Gyeongbokgung Palace?
I remember hearing that foreigners usually visit Korean cultural sites…
No, wait, Tenshi is from the MZ generation. She probably prefers theme parks, right?
But in Japan, they have Disneyland and Universal Studios.
I’m not trying to put down domestic theme parks, but Japan has some amazing ones…
Sigh, I’m not sure.
While I was deep in thought, I couldn’t help but laugh to myself.
The whole point was for the recording session, but here I was, thinking about playing instead.
Since nothing is really coming to mind right now, I decided to postpone it and focus on the song we were going to do together.
Plus, for the dance… If I tell the instructor during the dance lesson next week, they’ll teach me separately before Tenshi arrives.
So, today, I headed to my vocal academy for the first time in a while.
I had stopped going when I moved, but after contacting them yesterday, they said they’d do a special one-day lesson for me.
They’re offering it for free, though there are some conditions attached. But the vocal teacher agreed to find the time, so I gladly accepted.
After a long while, I arrived at the academy, and the lobby looked just like before.
Hmm… The receptionist is still the same.
“Ah, Suhyun, it’s been a while!”
When I walked in, the receptionist greeted me.
It’s been quite a while, but they remembered me?
Well, I guess with my looks, it’s hard to forget me.
“Hey. Been a while.”
“Who are you here to see? Or are you here to register?”
“Haha, no, not to register. I’m here because the vocal teacher said she’d give me a special one-day lesson.”
“Ah… That’s normally not allowed…”
Wait, it’s not allowed?
For a moment, I started sweating, thinking I might have said something wrong, but the receptionist smiled and said:
“I’ll make an exception for you. Go on in.”
“Haha… Thank you.”
That was a close call…
Thanks to the generous receptionist, I was able to successfully enter the academy.
After that, I walked down the familiar hallway and knocked on the door of the lesson room a couple of times before entering.
“Hello.”
“Ah! Welcome!”
When I entered the lesson room, the vocal teacher greeted me with the same bright smile as always.
Come to think of it, I owe a lot to this person.
I was in Hyunsoo’s album, did variety shows, and even acted in films because of her.
If you think about it, it was all a chain reaction from her one recommendation.
Thinking about it, it almost felt like there was a halo shining behind the vocal teacher.
“You’re early today?”
“How could I be late?”
“Weren’t you often late before?”
“….”
Was I?
I did show up late occasionally, but I don’t think I was often that late…
“Anyway, how have you been lately?”
“Well, I’m always fine. How about you, teacher?”
“I’m good too… I’ve been teaching my students and staying busy.”
After chatting a bit about how we’ve been, the main topic came up.
“So, have you become interested in K-pop now?”
“Haha… not exactly. It’s just that I needed to sing something for a bit.”
“Oh, are things going well for you these days?”
Things? She’s probably referring to my VTuber activities.
Well, things are going well… So well, in fact, that it sometimes caused a problem.
“It’s been going better than expected.”
“Wow, you’re getting humble now?”
“That’s the virtue of a successful person.”
“Oh….”
Hmm… it was just something I said, but it’s a bit embarrassing if they actually admire it.
I quickly changed the subject.
“So, where’s that person?”
“Oh, they’re not here yet. They’ll be coming soon.”
The condition for today’s free lecture from the vocal teacher was that she’d be teaching with one of her students.
She said she had already asked for permission beforehand, but I wonder if it’s really okay.
“Would I be enough help?”
“You should be fine. I’m different, so it’s hard for me to relate. That’s why I brought Suhyun here.”
Was it to help boost this student’s passion?
They had mentioned that the student wasn’t doing their best, even though they were capable of more.
Apparently, they’re a very positive and self-confident person, so advice doesn’t really work well with them.
Well, how much difference can being positive make… but anyway, I decided to give it a try.
As we were chatting for a while, someone knocked on the door, and as the teacher said it was okay to come in, a woman entered.
“Hello!!”
The woman who entered with a bright greeting immediately gave off a positive and confident vibe.
Her long legs and assertive expression already exuded a strong sense of self-esteem.
“Yaeun, welcome!”
“Yep!”
The woman, called Yaeun, was about to come inside when she spotted me and our eyes met.
“Uh… who’s this?”
She seemed startled when she saw me, but it’s a gaze I’m used to by now.
“Ah, let me introduce you. This is Suhyun, who’ll be joining us for the lesson today, like I mentioned earlier.”
“Ah! The one the teacher mentioned… Nice to meet you!”
After hearing the teacher’s introduction, Yaeun immediately recovered and offered me a greeting, which I happily returned.
“Nice to meet you too. I’m looking forward to working with you today.”
“Yes! I look forward to it too!”
For some reason, I found myself liking her right away. Maybe it’s because she’s naturally bright, or maybe it’s just her cheerful demeanor. There was no trace of sadness in her—her face just always seemed to be smiling.
“Since everyone is here, shall we start?”
With that, we began our lesson, me and Yaeun sitting side by side, diving into the training.
“Well, you see, nowadays K-pop is a little different from the past…”
The vocal teacher didn’t just focus on vocal training; she also shared some simple information about the music we were discussing. Even though she specialized in J-pop, she knew a good deal about K-pop too, and the things she shared were really helpful. I’ll have to remember these little bits of knowledge for when I can casually drop them on broadcasts and act like I know more than I actually do. The truth is, most people don’t know much about these things, so even someone like me, who’s only dipped a toe in, can still act like an expert.
“Shall we try it?”
After the brief lecture, we got down to actual vocal training.
“Let’s have Suhyun go first, and then Yaeun can follow.”
The lesson went smoothly. I had already taken lessons from this teacher, and Yaeun was no beginner either. We were both familiar with the class structure, so it was easy for us to keep up.
Plus, since it was an advanced class, we didn’t have to worry about the basics.
But despite the smooth progress, I couldn’t help but feel a little confused during the session.
“Teacher, could I talk to you for a moment?”
When the break came, I pulled the teacher aside.
“Is something wrong?”
She asked casually as we stepped out of the vocal room and into the hallway. I was genuinely puzzled, so I couldn’t help but speak up.
“You know the other student, Yaeun?”
I was referring to the person I had been training alongside, Yaeun. Something seemed off compared to what I had heard.
“Ah, yes, Yaeun.”
“…She’s really good.”
That was the issue.
Hadn’t the teacher mentioned that Yaeun could do much better, but she wasn’t putting in the effort? But from what I saw, she was fully engaged in the lesson and, above all, she performed really well. With her skills, I didn’t think I’d be the one to ignite her passion for singing.
I expressed my concerns, but the teacher laughed heartily.
“It’s already working!”
“What do you mean?”
“Yaeun is working harder than usual. I think she’s more motivated than I expected.”
“What? What did I do?”
“Well, you both took turns singing, didn’t you?”
Sure, we took turns singing, but I wasn’t exactly confident in my performance. I hadn’t really practiced that much, and I didn’t think I could outdo Yaeun in terms of ability, especially not in the K-pop training we just did.
“Of course, Yaeun’s really good. Maybe, in terms of skill, she’s not far behind you.”
“…Then why me?”
“But—”
The teacher pointed to my neck.
“Suhyun, your voice is incredible, isn’t it? You were just born with it.”
Ah, my voice.
I had gotten so used to it lately that I had forgotten for a moment, but I’ve always been the type to rely more on my voice than on technique.
Here’s the translation:
“Your voice is natural. Of course, Yaeun’s voice is good too, but Suhyun, yours really stands out. That must have been a big motivation for her.”
Hearing that, I kind of understood. After all, when a person faces something they can’t help, it tends to stir their emotions more.
“Yaeun’s a really nice person, and I want her to do well as a teacher… I just wish she could be as motivated as today, every day.”
“…She does seem like a good person.”
She really did seem like a good person.
In this day and age, someone that bright, and with a great voice and singing ability, I thought she’d do well on a broadcast. But with that mystery solved, I was about to head back in when…
“And actually…”
The vocal teacher, who had been thinking for a moment, suddenly moved closer and cautiously spoke.
“Ah, but you can’t tell anyone about this, okay? I’m only telling you because it’s you…”
“Huh?”
I didn’t know what it was, but I felt like it might be something I didn’t really need to know… Sometimes it’s better to not know certain things.
It’s like the blue pill and red pill from The Matrix—sometimes, ignorance really is bliss.
But, well…
I wasn’t going to spread it around, and the teacher was the one who brought it up first.
“…What is it?”
Curiosity was inevitably piqued.
“Actually, Yaeun… she’s also doing that thing, you know, the VTuber thing? Like you.”
“Huh?”
I hadn’t expected that to be the real “red pill.”
