New Client in the President’s Office - Chapter 17
Drunken Encounters and Unexpected MeetingsYu Xinnian was completely shocked.
The girls from their school were really something else.
His group of five guys, plus Yang Ming, had been playing drinking games, yet they had only finished 15 bottles of beer.
Meanwhile, Shen Yan had been gossiping and drinking with her group, not even paying attention to how much she had consumed.
At first, Shen Yan thought she was still perfectly clear-headed.
After all, she could still recognize every one of her colleagues when they were discussing the President’s Office.
Like how Mr. Lu Qing, who handled cafeteria logistics, was a relative of President Lu.
Back when he first started working in procurement, he suddenly bought a Land Rover, which led to a lot of gossip among his coworkers.
Unable to take the rumors anymore, he eventually admitted that his “Lu” was the same “Lu” as in Lu Corporation.
Or how Mr. Wang, who was in charge of security, was supposedly a retired military officer who could take down three grown men at once.
Shen Yan had been completely engrossed in these stories.
But when Yu Xinnian pointed it out, she glanced down at the beer bottles around her feet.
“1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 11…”
Had she drunk a little too much?
The moment she realized this, she started seeing double.
She was sure she didn’t have astigmatism.
Oh no, she was getting dizzy.
Feng Shanshan noticed her state right away.
She figured there was no way they could play Truth or Dare now.
She pulled Shen Yan into her arms, letting her rest on her shoulder, and said to Yu Xinnian, “Old Shen is really drunk.
We’re skipping the game.
Once she sobers up a little, we’re heading out.”
Yu Xinnian glanced at Shen Yan, who was leaning against Feng Shanshan with flushed cheeks.
If she was faking, she was doing a damn good job.
Xing Ning chuckled.
“She was probably holding on thanks to our gossip session, right?”
Qian Xiafeng laughed along.
“Let’s see if she even remembers any of this tomorrow.”
Xing Ning added, “As long as she remembers to find out if President Lu really has a girlfriend, that’s enough.”
Hearing this, Yang Ming looked surprised.
“President Lu has a girlfriend?”
Feng Shanshan gave Yang Ming a curious glance.
Was the campus beauty really aiming that high?
Back when Shen Yan broke up, she had insisted that Yang Ming would never be interested in Zhong Cheng.
Feng Shanshan hadn’t fully believed her at the time.
Xing Ning gave Yang Ming a knowing look and smiled.
“How would we know if President Lu has a girlfriend?
It’s just some company rumors.”
Qian Xiafeng asked curiously, “Do you know President Lu?”
Yang Ming smiled.
“Not really.
But during the school’s anniversary, I interviewed him for the school newspaper.
I asked if he was single, and he said yes.”
Xing Ning shrugged.
“Oh, well.
For us little interns, forget about talking to President Lu we haven’t even seen him in person.”
She turned to Qian Xiafeng, who also shook her head.
“I haven’t either.”
Yu Xinnian, suddenly reminded, said, “I haven’t seen him either.”
Xing Ning squinted at him.
“…Didn’t you just start last week?”
Yu Xinnian, realizing he had inserted himself into the conversation unnecessarily, went silent.
Just then, from the side, Shen Yan let out a muffled, “Urgh”
She felt nauseous but managed to hold it in.
Feng Shanshan immediately grabbed the trash bin from the floor and handed it to her.
But Shen Yan waved her hand.
“Let’s just go.
I’m not gonna throw up.”
“Alright.”
Feng Shanshan helped her up, grabbed their bags, and bid farewell to the others in the private room.
Once outside, she let Shen Yan stand by the entrance to get some fresh air.
“You really drank too much.
Breathe in the night air feeling any better?”
Shen Yan hung onto Feng Shanshan’s shoulder.
“Why aren’t you wearing heels today?
You’re kind of short.
It’s not comfortable to lean on you.”
Feng Shanshan: …
What kind of nonsense was that?!
She looked down at their shoes.
“It’s not that I didn’t wear heels.
It’s that your sneakers have a thick sole.”
“Oh, that’s why.”
Shen Yan’s voice sounded dazed.
Whatever.
Feng Shanshan wasn’t about to argue with a drunk person.
Feng Shanshan dragged Shen Yan to her electric scooter and sat her down on the back seat.
“Old Shen, be good.
Hold onto me, and we’ll head home.”
Shen Yan obediently wrapped her arms around Feng Shanshan’s waist.
“Mm.”
As the scooter glided through the night streets of S City, the cool breeze of May brushed against Feng Shanshan’s face.
Suddenly, a thought struck her.
“Old Shen, you didn’t drink this much because you still like Zhong Cheng, did you?!”
Shen Yan immediately snapped back.
“Nonsense!
I don’t care about him at all.”
Feng Shanshan: “You better mean that.”
Shen Yan: “When have I ever lied to you?”
Feng Shanshan thought for a moment.
“If you think Yu Xinnian is decent, I can stop liking him.
He’s definitely better than Zhong Cheng.”
Shen Yan’s already-clouded mind grew even fuzzier.
“Yu Xinnian?
Who’s Yu Xinnian?”
Feng Shanshan: …
“Well, you at least remember who Zhong Cheng is, right?”
Shen Yan nodded, smudging her foundation onto Feng Shanshan’s back.
“Mm.
Yang Ming’s simp.”
Feng Shanshan: “…That is true.”
She gave up trying to reason with her.
Old Shen wouldn’t say it, but deep down, she was probably still furious at Zhong Cheng.
Then, suddenly
“Zhou Xing!”
As they waited at a red light, Shen Yan shouted loudly from behind, making Feng Shanshan jump.
“Who?!”
“Assistant Zhou!!”
Shen Yan practically yelled from the back seat.
Across the zebra crossing, Zhou Xing heard his name and turned toward them.
Upon seeing Shen Yan, he walked over with a surprised expression.
“Xiao Shen?”
Xiao Shen?
Assistant Zhou?
Feng Shanshan couldn’t believe her luck.
She had just finished hearing all the gossip about this man, and now she was meeting him in person.
Also, how was Shen Yan suddenly able to call out to people so confidently after getting drunk?
Should she take a few sips of alcohol before her next job interview for courage?
Shen Yan straightened up from leaning against Feng Shanshan’s back and greeted him.
“Hello, Assistant Zhou.”
Zhou Xing smiled.
“You and your friend heading home after dinner?”
Shen Yan nodded.
She noticed Zhou Xing holding a briefcase.
“You just got off work?”
Zhou Xing chuckled.
“It’s Sunday.
I just came from President Lu’s house.”
Shen Yan froze.
Her mind wasn’t entirely clear, but she still remembered the high-five she had shared with Qian Xiafeng during their drinking session.
“You… President Lu… you guys…?”
Zhou Xing had no idea what was going through her head.
“Mm.
We had dinner at the Lu residence.”
“…Just dinner?”
Zhou Xing thought for a moment.
“Not exactly.”
Shen Yan’s face lit up with an I knew it expression.
Then she heard Zhou Xing continue.
“We also worked a little.
Discussed next week’s schedule.”
He had originally planned to tell her that he and Lu Yu would be going on a business trip to the capital next week.
But seeing how drunk she was, he decided against it.
Shen Yan instinctively asked, “What’s the schedule?”
As soon as the words left her mouth, she realized it wasn’t appropriate.
She quickly took them back.
“No, no, I don’t want to know.
It’s after hours I don’t want to hear about work.”
Zhou Xing smiled, almost indulgently.
“Alright, you two should get going.
It’s getting late.”
What he didn’t say was that they would still need to transfer to the subway, so they should hurry up.
Shen Yan nodded and waved goodbye to him.
Right then, the traffic light turned green.
Feng Shanshan waved at Zhou Xing as well and drove off with Shen Yan.
Even after they got back to Shen Yan’s apartment, Feng Shanshan was still puzzled.
This man seemed completely normal.
How had they concluded that he was gay again?
